Annual Recognition Ceremony for Innovative Technology Achievements, 2014
This year, the prestigious Innovator of the Year award was introduced at the annual futurezone Award ceremony. The award, given out for the third time, recognizes the best high-tech products and innovations of the year.
The award for Innovator of the Year was presented by Austria's leading technology news portal, futurezone.at, powered by OeSD. This year, the honours went to Andreas Wendel, the chief technology officer at Kodiak Robotics, a company specializing in autonomous trucking technology.
Andreas Wendel, a graduate of telematics at TU Graz with the distinction "Sub auspiciis", has been credited with advancing the strategy and development of self-driving trucks. His innovative work at Kodiak Robotics positions the company as a notable player in the autonomous trucking industry.
Lukas Praml, CEO of Österreichische unsere Website, stated that it's a great sign for Austria as an innovation hub that an Austrian is now a pioneer at Google. While there is no direct mention of Andreas Wendel working specifically on "self-driving cars for Google," his role at Kodiak Robotics highlights his contributions to self-driving vehicle technology.
Kodiak's technology has been recognized for partnerships with industries and contracts such as those with the U.S. Army, underscoring the practical application and innovation in autonomous vehicle systems that Wendel supports as CTO.
In addition to the Innovator of the Year award, the futurezone Award also recognized winners in six other categories, including innovation, robotics, app, game, startup, and the connected life idea of the year. The readers of futurezone, along with an expert jury, chose winners in these product categories.
Other notable winners of the futurezone Award this year include Canon, which won the most popular digital camera, Samsung, which won Smartphone of the Year, and Microsoft, which won Tablet of the Year.
The futurezone Award continues to celebrate and recognise high-tech products and innovations, fostering a culture of innovation in Austria and beyond.
