Android 16 beta sign-ups are generating excitement for its debut on the Phone 3, with the closed beta enrollment now available
The tech world is abuzz with excitement as Nothing, the innovative tech company led by Carl Pei, has announced the commencement of the closed beta testing for Android 16 on their latest device, the Nothing Phone 3.
Confidentiality is stressed for potential testers during this closed beta, with the signup form available until 12 pm ET on August 3, 2025. The closed beta, which runs from August to early September, is only for the Phone 3 model, which runs Android 16 throughout its entirety.
Nothing is looking for daily users of the Phone 3 who are willing to engage and provide feedback during the beta test. The closed beta test will focus on delivering Android 16's native features and implementing a more robust design system. After this closed phase, the open beta will start in September 2025, ahead of the wider stable release anticipated in autumn (September to November).
The Phone 3, unveiled on July 1, is powered by a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor and boasts a 6.6-inch AMOLED display. The device also features an in-house AI suite via Essential Space.
In a recent announcement, Nothing also revealed that the Phone 3 will receive seven years of security patches and five years of Android OS upgrades, ensuring that the device remains up-to-date and secure for its users. Moreover, the Phone 3 will receive the Android 16 upgrade before older models like the Phone 2.
However, no specific details about the Phone 3's battery life were mentioned in the announcement. The open beta for Android 16 testing is scheduled to begin in September 2025, following the closed beta period.
With Carl Pei's commitment to bringing Android 16 to users this year, the tech community eagerly awaits further updates and the official launch of Android 16 under Nothing OS 4.0, expected to launch toward the end of Q3 2025.
