AMD's Radeon RX 7700: New Mid-Range GPU with RDNA 3 Architecture
AMD has quietly introduced the Radeon RX 7700, a new GPU that's been developed in-house and is currently listed as an OEM product, suggesting it may be intended for pre-built systems rather than retail. The card comes with 16 GB GDDR6 memory and a 256-bit bus, but its availability remains uncertain.
The RX 7700 is powered by AMD's latest RDNA 3 architecture and features 2,560 Stream Processors and 40 Compute Units, along with 80 AI accelerators and 40 MB Infinity Cache. ASRock has already revealed a custom 'Challenger' design for the card, clocked at up to 2,459 MHz. However, AMD has listed a ~20% decrease in gaming performance compared to the RX 7700 XT, indicating that the RX 7700 is positioned as a step below its more powerful sibling.
To avoid cannibalizing the market of the RX 9060 XT, AMD is expected to price the RX 7700 below $350. However, the card does come with a higher power consumption of 263W, compared to the 7700 XT's 245W, which might raise some eyebrows among eco-conscious consumers.
The AMD Radeon RX 7700 is a new addition to the company's GPU lineup, offering a balance between performance and affordability. With its custom designs from partners like ASRock and a competitive price point, the RX 7700 is poised to make an impact in the mid-range GPU market, despite its slightly higher power consumption.
