AI-generated fake endorsement from Taylor Swift worries Trump, voices concern over advanced technology

On a Sunday, former president Donald Trump shared an AI-crafted visual of Taylor Swift, mimicking Uncle Sam propaganda. The image depicted Swift pointing to the audience, urging votes for Trump.

In response to a query from Fox Business regarding legal concerns of a potential lawsuit from Swift, Trump stated, "I've got no clue about them. Somebody else produced those, I didn't. They were all created by others." The pictures were posted on the personal platform owned by Trump on his Truth Social page.

Trump expressed worries about misrepresentation due to AI. "It's happening to me too," he stated. "They're pretending to have me speak. I speak impeccably, precisely - on AI, and I'm endorsing other products. It's a bit unsettling."

Swift, known for her litigious nature and vigilance over her image, could potentially find Trump's posts illegal in her home state, Tennessee. As mentioned by 404 Media, the Ensuring Likeness, Voice, and Image Security (ELVIS) Act, signed by the state's governor in March, works to protect artists' voices and likeness from misappropriation.

As of penning this piece, the contested images are still live on Trump's Truth Social page.

Six months ago, Trump highlighted his fear surrounding AI-generated images in another Fox Business interview. He claimed, "It is the most dangerous thing out there because there's no genuine solution."

Later, he expressed concerns regarding the ability of AI to infiltrate wars and other confusing situations. "Something has to be done about this, and it needs to happen quickly," said Trump, voicing his doubts about anyone knowing the right course of action.

Trump's stance contrasted with the Republican party's platform in 2023, following a watch of Mission: Impossible-Dead Reckoning. Afterward, Joe Biden raised concerns about AI in a signed executive order aimed at making AI safer and more reliable.

In contrast, the 2024 GOP platform outlines plans to revoke Biden's executive order, stating, "We will repeal Joe Biden's harmful Executive Order that restricts AI Innovation, and impose the Radical Left's agenda on AI development. Instead, Republicans advocate for AI Development grounded in Free Speech and Human Thriving."

Six months ago, Trump lamented the lack of solutions to the AI issue. "The AI technology is so sophisticated and so powerful that what you state in this interview with you almost doesn't matter anymore," he said. "They can recraft things and no one can discern the difference. Even experts can't identify the difference. This is a substantial problem regarding security. People need to focus on this, and they should start working on it right away."
