Developed by SPH Media and ST, supported by Amazon Web Services (AWS), Work Bestie serves up advice from an archive of more than 5,000 ST articles on careers and working life, published from January 1, 2020. This sexySinglish-speaking bot was crafted by ST's product and technology team, who thought a chatbot would make career info feel zingy and casual. They teamed up with Headstart, which aims to engage ST's young adult audience with content on career, money, and lifestyle.
Curious what you should do if your manager asks for a follow on Instagram? Straight up, Work Bestie'll tell you to maintain your professional boundaries. As a career knight, Work Bestie sticks strictly to career discussions, avoiding topics like upcoming movie releases or gossip.
Since developing Work Bestie took about three months, the clever cats behind the scenes tested the bot numerous times to make sure its replies are accurate, relevant, and uphold journalistic quality, said team head and ST associate editor, Ong Hwee Hwee.
Built on Amazon Bedrock, AWS' service for creating AI apps, Work Bestie currently runs on Anthropic's large language model Claude 3.5 Sonnet.
Priscilla Chong, the AWS Singapore country manager, shared that Work Bestie makes career advice more on-point and tailored than ever before. This clever bot provides insights in real time through natural conversations, rather than making users navigate through multiple articles. Additionally, it illustrates how news companies can use AI to enhance user experiences without compromising editorial integrity.
