AI Agent Takes Center Stage in Radio Technology at IBC 2025 in Studio Setup
The IBC Show 2025, with its theme of "shaping the future," is set to be a pivotal event for radio broadcasters worldwide. Taking place from September 12-15 at the RAI Amsterdam, the show promises to delve into key trends and challenges shaping the radio industry.
One of the main focuses will be the AI-driven transformation in media and broadcast technologies. WorldDAB, a leading organisation in digital radio, will present its session, "Shaping the Future of Broadcast Radio," on Sunday, September 14, discussing the growth of the DAB+ platform, recent launches in Turkey and Greece, trials in Ireland, Bosnia & Herzegovina, and Thailand, and initiatives in Germany and Switzerland.
AI is increasingly viewed as an enabler for efficiency in the radio industry, reducing the time spent on mundane tasks without replacing creative, human workflows. The project "AI Assistance Agents for Live Production," part of the IBC Accelerator Media Innovation Program, will explore the use of AI assistants in studio environments to help hosts navigate shift duties and control production systems using natural language commands. Notably, Shure leads the audio workstream of this project.
Maintaining visibility and audience reach across digital platforms like smart speakers and mobile apps is a key challenge for the radio industry. Connolly emphasises this point, highlighting the need for broadcasters to leverage AI in ways that maintain visibility and ad revenue in an increasingly algorithm-driven ecosystem.
Beyond AI, the show will highlight innovations in augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) technologies, immersive media including avatars, and low-latency streaming enhancements, all crucial to evolving broadcast production and delivery. There will likely be a strong emphasis on technology democratization, security, and business transformation within the IABM Impact Stage programme.
For radio broadcasters attending the IBC Show, topics like cloud adoption, virtualization, digital switchover, AI, and the use of AI assistants in studio environments will be covered. The IBC Show will feature the latest in cloud- and AI-based technologies, including WorldDAB's new DAB+ Automatic Safety Alert system, demonstrating at the event.
The adoption of AI is still in the early stages for many radio broadcasters, but there is clear interest in understanding how these tools can add value while enabling operators to work faster and creatively. Macro-economic pressures and trade disruption are accelerating the move towards more nimble, software-defined solutions and creative ways of doing business in the radio industry.
A wide array of radio- and audio-related exhibitors will be present at the IBC Show, including the majority of radio exhibitors in Hall 8. Jacqueline Bierhorst, the president of WorldDAB, will also speak at the event.
With more than 270 speakers and approximately 1,350 exhibitors from 170 countries, the IBC Show 2025 is set to be a vibrant and insightful event for radio broadcasters seeking to navigate the evolving media landscape.
