Agencies grapple with AI-powered data processing, as Cisco and Splunk step in to provide solutions
Cisco and its subsidiary Splunk have announced a series of exciting new offerings in the security and observability areas, centred around AI agents and a decentralized data architecture called the Cisco Data Fabric.
At the heart of these advancements is the Time Series Foundation Model (TSFM), a model specifically designed for time series data. Trained on a mix of internal Cisco service data, specific protocols, industry-specific, and publicly available data, the TSFM promises high precision and adaptability. It is set to be published on Hugging Face in November 2025.
Splunk has introduced a series of specialized AI agents to aid in triage, malware analysis, playbook creation, and the automation of personalized detection rules. These agents are set to be available at the beginning of next year.
The Cisco Data Fabric, unveiled at the .conf25 conference in Boston, aims to simplify the handling of growing machine data volumes. It makes decentralized data available for further AI processing and can consolidate data from edge, cloud, and hybrid environments.
One of the key benefits of the Cisco Data Fabric is its ability to enable real-time data stream analysis and conversion into valuable information, all without the need for centralization.
In addition, ingesting firewall logs from Cisco firewalls into Splunk is now free. This move is expected to reduce costs and lower latencies, making security analyses more accessible.
Federated Search has been extended to include Cisco firewall data for security analyses on the Splunk Cloud Platform. Splunk's Federated Search will also include Microsoft Azure as a data source by the end of 2026.
Cisco's President and Chief Product Officer is Jeetu Patel. The company is expanding its offerings around AI agents as part of its commitment to providing innovative solutions for its customers.
The Splunk Enterprise Security Premier Edition includes Splunk SOAR and Splunk UEBA, while the Essentials Edition combines Splunk Enterprise Security 8.2 and the Splunk AI Assistant. Splunk SOAR and Splunk UEBA are currently in the early access program.
The Splunk AI Assistant is available worldwide, providing users with an intelligent tool for navigating and analysing data.
As these new offerings roll out, businesses can look forward to enhanced security, improved observability, and the ability to derive valuable insights from their data more efficiently than ever before.
