Advanced Artificial Intelligence technology now oversees driving schools in Dubai, transforming supervision by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

In an effort to promote safe driving practices, enhance service quality, and accelerate Dubai's digital transformation, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a cutting-edge Smart Monitoring System[1][3][5]. This innovative system, operated through the RTA’s Licensing Intelligent Operations Centre and inspectors’ smart tablets, uses AI-powered cameras installed in driving school vehicles to monitor the behaviour of instructors and trainees in real-time[1][3][5].

The Smart Monitoring System leverages machine learning and computer vision to automatically detect violations such as mobile phone use, failure to wear seat belts, leaving permitted training zones, improper uniform or appearance, and distractions like eating, drinking, or sleeping while driving[1][3][5]. By ensuring continuous, round-the-clock supervision and automatic violation detection, the system enhances the quality of driving training and strengthens road safety standards[1][3][5].

The system, developed by the Licensing Activities Monitoring Department at RTA's Licensing Agency, has already made a significant impact. Over the past seven months, it has tracked over 1.73 million training sessions involving nearly 246,000 trainees[1][3][5]. This represents a 14-fold increase over the previous year's figures, demonstrating a significant improvement in the scale and quality of driver training[1][3][5].

Moreover, the Smart Monitoring System has dramatically reduced vehicle inspection times from 20 minutes to just one minute while increasing detected violations fivefold[1][3][5]. This swifter and more thorough enforcement of safety protocols is expected to foster a culture of responsibility and continuous improvement among driving schools in Dubai.

The RTA emphasizes the importance of training institutions complying with safety regulations and is collaborating with strategic partners to ensure driving schools maintain high safety standards[4]. The Smart Monitoring System will integrate instructor performance data with licensing systems, providing a comprehensive overview of each instructor's performance and ensuring that only the most competent instructors are licensed[2].

The AI-powered system is installed in driving school vehicles and uses AI-driven smart cameras for round-the-clock, real-time monitoring[1][3][5]. The RTA's Smart Monitoring System is part of the RTA's ongoing efforts to support Dubai's government-wide initiatives focused on digital innovation and safety compliance[2]. As Dubai continues to strive towards being a global hub for innovation and sustainability, the Smart Monitoring System is a testament to the city's commitment to safe, seamless, and sustainable mobility.

The RTA's Smart Monitoring System, an initiative in digital transformation, is leveraging technology to improve the quality of driving training and strengthen road safety standards. By integrating instructor performance data with licensing systems, the system fosters a culture of responsibility and continuous improvement among driving schools in Dubai, aligning with the city's goal of becoming a global hub for innovation and sustainability. Crucially, the system's AI-driven smart cameras are not just confined to the realm of transport but also contribute to enhancing overall safety standards in various industries such as finance, culture, environment, and even in the workplace, promoting a safer and more responsible society.
