In today's connected world, finding a reliable Wi-Fi hotspot can be a necessity for many. Whether you're a tourist exploring new cities or a local on the go, 2GIS has made it easier to find Wi-Fi hotspots in various locations across Russia.

Searching for Wi-Fi Hotspots with 2GIS

2GIS, a popular map service in Russia, has integrated information about publicly available Wi-Fi hotspots into their maps. This feature is accessible on both iOS and Android devices, as well as on the 2gis.ru site.

To use the search feature in offline mode, you'll need to download the city maps first. Currently, cities included in the 2GIS database are Moscow, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Perm, Rostov-on-Don, Volgograd, Naberezhnye Chelny, Almetyevsk, Tolyatti, Tyumen, Ulyanovsk, Saratov, Tambov, Tula, Cheboksary, and Magnitogorsk. St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk are planned to be included soon.

Finding Wi-Fi Hotspots in St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk

While there isn't a dedicated Wi-Fi hotspot layer in the 2GIS maps for St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk, you can still find Wi-Fi hotspots by searching for public places that commonly offer them. These include cafes, libraries, malls, or public transport stations.

Here's how you can do it:

  1. Open the 2GIS app or website and select St. Petersburg or Novosibirsk as the city.
  2. Use the search bar to look for places known to offer Wi-Fi, such as "кафе с Wi-Fi" (cafes with Wi-Fi), "библиотека" (library), or "торговый центр" (shopping mall).
  3. Explore the venue details in the app; locations that provide Wi-Fi usually mention it in their description.
  4. Public transport hubs or metro stations may also show availability of free Wi-Fi in their info panels.

Please note that there is no official standardized Wi-Fi hotspot tag or property specifically for 2GIS maps publicly documented as of now. Thus, discovering Wi-Fi spots relies on searching typical locations and checking their offered services.

If you need more automated or crowdsourced Wi-Fi hotspot data, you might need separate apps or services specializing in Wi-Fi mapping beyond 2GIS.
